What is DLYT?

DLYT is the moniker for purely creative, special projects taken on by Toronto-based creative studio Dashing Collective.  In simplest terms it started as “Dashing Light” but as we developed the concept it’s grown to become more about finding outlets for our creative expression that aren’t at their core, commercial… so now more than “light” it’s “delight”.  It’s how we expand our minds and feed our inner child that thrives on creativity.

The first project on the list is SMILE, a slightly obfuscated acronym that stands for Socially Motivated Interactive Light Environment.  It’s an interactive light installation on a large scale that uses custom hardware and software to create what will be an immersive and interactive light experience for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2011, a yearly festival of creative expression that takes place one night in October from dusk to dawn.  The Fort York green space will be our blank canvas for the installation.  The project is being developed, produced, created, and envisioned in heavy collaboration with Aesthetec Studio, a truly innovative group of creative engineers who specialize in engaging physical interactive experiences.

What is Dashing?

Anchored by Founder and Creative Director Robert Moggach, Toronto-based creative collective, Dashing Collective is a group of digital craftsmen, creative problem solvers, and technical innovators with an unconventional vision. We pursue projects that are creatively and technically challenging and change perspectives of what is achievable for small, highly-skilled creative teams. With an established and renowned commercial focus on high-end visual effects the studio also harbors capabilities that allow for unconventional cross-platform projects. Working in collaboration with a team of top digital artists, engineers and software developers under the pseudonym of DLYT, Dashing is embarking on the first of it’s purely creative, non-commercial projects, SMILE.
